A few months back, my interest and curiosity on the now green tea phenomenon of matcha seemed to grow by the day and so I knew if I was going to get my hands on some it would have to be the real deal. And so the mission of finding the finest Japanese green tea began…

WHAT IS MATCHA?

Matcha is a shade-grown, all-natural, powdered Japanese green tea. Unlike other teas, Matcha undergoes a number of additional steps in the production cycle before it makes its way into your cup, including; shade growing, hand picking, and granite milling into a fine powder.

Created over 800 years ago by Buddhist monks as a meditational tool, Matcha is known today as the healthiest, rarest, and most premium of all tea varieties from Japan.

100% BENEFIT FROM THE LEAF

Matcha is ground into a fine powder, which means you are consuming the entire leaf when drinking Matcha or enjoying a food or beverage made with Matcha. Matcha drinkers receive 100% of the benefits of the whole tea leaf, enjoying its antioxidants, amino acids, vitamins, minerals, and fiber.

Matcha contains higher antioxidant levels on a per gram basis than any other known natural fruits or vegetables. ORAC test results show that one gram of Ceremonial Matcha green tea contains 1,384 ORAC units – about 15x the antioxidants available in wild blueberries.

I knew a fellow blogger I just love and adore, Laura at The First Mess was weening herself off her daily dosage of coffee and had been using matcha in alot of her instagram stories etc, so I casually asked her which brand she uses and would highly recommend. Thats when she told me about the lovely AiyaFamily Owned since 1888, it is the world’s leading Matcha green tea producer, headquartered in Nishio city, Japan, where the finest Matcha green tea has been grown for over 800 years.

Thanks to Laura and all of the amazing people at Aiya, my days just are never the same without a cup of green goodness! (enter loud applause)

Because this batter is vegan, feel free to taste it as you go and adjust the flavors to your taste! The peppermint and matcha flavors are both very mild, so if you want something with more of a punch, feel free to add more of either ingredient. (Be careful with both– a little can go a long way!)

I hope you’ll enjoy them.

Happy Tuesday!
