h e l l o October! And HELLO perfect running temps! These past few days of fresh air and sunny skies has made me feel SO much more at peace with myself and the world. Funny how literally doing the simple act of turning the page in your calendar can switch your focus from things that may have been distracting you in life to much more important, positive and uplifting thoughts automatically. A new chance to live, to feel good and to be whisked away into all of the good vibes that the Fall season brings! A new season brings so many new opportunities and experiences. I especially love to get out for as many outdoor runs as I can, I love to bake during this season, I love roasting and eating umpteen amounts of butternut squash and indulging in really anything pumpkin spice! I love riding my bike during fall especially, going for walks with pooch, and creating delicious healthy recipes like this Detox Broccoli Salad with Orange Miso Sunflower Dressing that is super easy to prepare and ultimately the perfect main or side dish to enjoy at your Thanksgiving gathering this up-coming weekend!
Things about Thanksgiving I love: definitely getting together with the family and sharing those traditional good times together. I also love the feeling that Thanksgiving brings, just that low-key cozy, casual vibe that totally makes me feel 100% at ease. The smell of pumpkin pie and latte’s, the delicious array of homemade food that I never take for granted, being able to wear plaid shirts and tights to dinner 🙂 and of course the number one thing really being thankful for my life and everything in it. Looking around at the table and feeling so blessed to still have my two healthy parents, in-laws, brothers, sisters, friends, and of course my sidekick & my best friend in the world… my husband.
I personally love staying on the “lighter” side of things at holiday gatherings and thats why I have created this Detox Broccoli Salad which can absolutely be tossed in with your favourite grain like Quinoa, Brown Rice, Freekeh, Cous Cous, and of course if your into Turkey it would make a perfect pairing. My personal favourites would be Brown Rice or Quinoa with Tofu or Salmon. I love the taste of the Orange Miso Sunflower dressing alongside some crispy sautéed tofu or fresh Alaskan baked Salmon. Feel free to enjoy this as a main or side dish and double up the recipe with hopes that there will be leftovers 🙂
I did steam the broccoli for this recipe because I am not a raw veg kinda gal however if you do enjoy raw broccoli this recipe would still turn out perfect! It would also cut down on some of the prep time making it as easy as 1,2,3! I find cooked/steamed vegetables must easier to digest and because I eat large portions of vegetables daily I take the extra time to do so.
With only 5 simple, healthy ingredients and a homemade dressing that whips up in seconds you’ll want to make this salad the whole year through! Enjoy! and may you all have a safe and happy Thanksgiving weekend!

The most important thing to know about steaming broccoli is that cooking the broccoli any more than 7 minutes tops risks overcooking it. After 7 minutes the broccoli will turn it olive green, instead of that beautiful vibrant green color we want.
My favourite add ins are cooked quinoa, beans and sautéed crisy tofu.
Will keep in the fridge for a couple of days.
